The Mallee Classic was initiated in the Mallee Region of Victoria in 1997, due to its remoteness the event relocated to Ballarat in 2001. It continued until 2007, when Barry Trewin the Founder moved to Papua New Guinea. Barry has now moved back to Australia in 2017 and is working on a new concept aimed at attracting the general public to be more involved.
